Play dough-kids way of begin creative and messy. We all know you can head on over to Pinterest and find recipes upon recipes for play dough. It all comes down to what you prefer; made on the stove, use of cream of tartar or even how safe it’s for the little ones if they try to eat it.
I have tried a few different recipes for play dough but the one that I consistently make is the following.
Recipe Play Dough
Ingredients
- 2 cups of Flour
- 1 cup of Salt
- 2 cups Water
- 1 Tablespoon Vegetable Oil
- 4 teaspoon of Cream of Tartar
- Food colouring (optional)
Instructions
If you like coloured play dough you can add food colouring at the beginning with all ingredients for just one colour or at the end and have multi colours.
- Add all ingredients to a pot, gentling mixing to make sure there are no lumps, the mixture will be runny.
- Place on the stove over medium heat, stirring constantly as you don’t want the mixture to stick to the bottom.
- Slowly the mixture will start to form a dough, keep stirring until it all pulls away from the pot.
- Remove pot from heat and allow to cool for a few minutes.
- Knead the dough like bread a few times, which helps make sure the play dough isn’t too sticky.
- If you want multiply coloured play dough now is the time to divide and add the food colouring.
I let one of the kids decide on a colour and make just the one colour of play dough. Eliminates fighting over and the mixing of colours.
This recipe has lasted us for several months. I find it depends on how often the kids play with it as to how long it lasts. We store playdough in either Ziploc bags or airtight containers
