Salt Dough Ornaments

Salt Dough Ornament painted

We have made several salt dough ornaments and a few trinkets over a couple of years, the kids love choosing the cookie cutters they want to use and then painting them afterwards.

This recipe is great for salt dough ornaments or trinkets around the house.

Recipe Salt Dough

Cut out shapes of Salt Dough

Ingredients

1 cup Flour

1/2 cup salt

1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. In a bowl mix all 3 ingredients until it forms a dough.
  2. Take the dough out and knead a few times to help make it smooth.
  3. Roll dough out to about 1/4 inch of thickness.
  4. Cutting into desired shapes. Placing cut-outs on wax or parchment paper to dry.
  5. Use a straw to cut out holes for hanging.
  6. Paint and display

Tips

  1. Drying time may vary depending on thickness, could be overnight or the next day.
  2. Use wax or parchment paper to help with flipping and drying time. I just used a cookie sheet and the ornaments stick after I left them overnight to dry and ended up breaking one.
